Troublesome autofocus on Canon EOS 1D mark III – A myth?

According to a representative from Canon Denmark the whole 1D mark III auto focus deal with the troublesome autofocus that required a couple of software and hardware fixes in order to work as advertised is / was  nothing more than a bad rumour.
Out of more 23000 units sold only 2300 was sent to Canon with a faulty auto focus system. While the representative believes its too much its essentially a very small number (around 10%).

So we can conclude that Canon allows at least 10% faulty units of the total amount of sold unit with one type of fault before its considered nothing more than a rumour.
I wonder how many faulty Mark III units Canon received for repair in total.
